Have you ever been around someone that seems to take ALL of your energy?
Throughout my journey, I’ve witnessed my share of super toxic relationships. From undercover backstabbers to competitive drama queens, it seems that no one is exempt from those who thrive off of negativity.
In case you haven’t noticed, joy thieves are like ticks that suck the lifeblood from others. Understanding the motives behind the madness will be the key to maintaining your sanity.
Joy thieves are rarely happy themselves, and that is why it is so important for them to “drain” happiness from others.
Here are 3 common joy stealers that I’ve had the “pleasure” of knowing. Can you relate to any of these?
Joy Thief #1-“The Blabber Mouth”– This joy stealer uses gossip and other mindless chatter to create confusion. Confusion is a distraction, and distractions are the enemies of progress. So please, don’t fall for it.
Joy Thief #2-“The Backstabber”-This clever “acquaintance” wants to know everything about EVERY-thing. This joy thief will quickly misuse business or personal trust to gain a leg up.
Joy Thief #3-“The Nay Sayer/Hater”– No matter how much of a good plan you have, this joy stealer will almost ALWAYS find something negative to say about it. Nothing is ever good enough. Please avoid this “associate” at all costs. For the nay sayer/hater, encouragement is never the name of the game.
So tell me… do any of these perpetrators sound familiar? On the surface, they might be hard to spot. But, in due time, their true colors will always show. My advice…break free while you can;)
Verse for today
… whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (Phillipians 4:8)
‘til next time…peace, love, and lots of JOY!!
